Coat shopping is tricky when you’re petite, so I put five Quince coats and jackets to the test on my 5’2″ frame, plus two more I’ve got my eye on. Here’s how each one actually fits, which ones I think are worth the money, and the one that went back. Quince gifted me the Hooded Wrap Coat. This post has affiliate links.
The quick answer
What I loved
My favorite is the Wool Cashmere Short Coat, and the Hooded Wrap Coat and men’s overshirt are both high quality and worth it for the right person. The biggest surprise was the Featherless Quilted Long Puffer: it’s slim but seriously warm, and it’s the one I’d point most petite women to first.
Keep in mind
Several of these run roomy on a small frame, mostly in the shoulders and sleeves. The Merino Wool Shirt Jacket was too big and too scratchy for me, so it went back.

1. Wool Cashmere Short Coat: my favorite

This is the coat I reach for first. It’s heavy, warm and really well made, and the real horn buttons give it a vintage feel I love. The fit isn’t perfect on me: the sleeves are long and the shoulders sit a bit wide, so I’ll be getting the sleeves taken up. I wore an XS in Mocha Brown, and it’s $175.

2. Featherless Quilted Long Puffer Jacket: warmer than it looks

I was after an everyday puffer without the marshmallow look, and this one is slim but way warmer than it looks. The sleeves are the right length and it feels true to size. My only nitpick is the gold-tone zipper and snaps, which is purely a matter of taste. I wore an XS in Barolo Burgundy, and it’s $100.

3. Men’s Double-Brushed Stretch Overshirt Jacket: a good fall layer

I grabbed this one from the men’s side. The fabric is brushed inside and out, so it has a soft, sturdy feel a bit like broken-in denim, and it’s well made. It’s a nice slouchy layer over a sweater in the fall, but it won’t cut it in winter. Mine seems to have shrunk slightly after washing, so read the reviews before you pick a size. I wore a men’s small in Navy, and it was $52 when I checked.

4. 100% Merino Wool Shirt Jacket: the one I sent back

I had high hopes for this one, but it’s not worth it to me. The fit was uncomfortable, since the dropped shoulders swallowed me (Quince does list that on the product page, so that part’s on me). The bigger problem was the fabric: it’s thick and rough, and it just wasn’t soft at all. Back it went. You can read the full story in my Merino Wool Shirt Jacket review. Plenty of people love it, though, and the cropped version looks adorable. I wore an XS in Heather Bone, and it’s $100.
5. Wool Cashmere Hooded Wrap Coat: the warmest one (gifted)

Quince sent me this one to try. It’s a wool and cashmere blend with a full lining and a zip-out down bib, and it’s easily the warmest coat of the bunch. It’s long and elegant with lovely quality. It’s worth it if you’re not as petite as I am. On my XS frame it’s roomy, and the hood doesn’t lie flat, but the quality is excellent. I wore an XS in Caramel, and it’s $250.

2 Quince coats I’m eyeing
I haven’t tried these yet, so this is just what has my attention. The Double-Faced Merino Wool Draped Collar Short Wrap Coat ($180) is high on my list. It looks gorgeous on everyone I’ve seen wear it, and one reviewer compared it to wearing a robe. Reviewers keep saying it’s true to size and works for petites, even in XS. Since it’s unlined double-faced merino, I’d think of it as a fall coat rather than a winter one. I’ll report back if I try it.
The Wool Cashmere Cocoon Coat ($175) uses the same wool and cashmere blend as the short coat, with a rounded cocoon shape and a shawl collar you can wear up or down. It’s beautiful, but the shoulders look a little big in the photos, possibly padded, so I’m on the fence. I’m still curious, though.
My measurements
I measured every coat I tried for the video, and you’ll find my numbers in the full reviews, so you can compare them with a coat you already own.
Watch the full try-on
Here’s where each coat starts in my Quince coats video: the Wool Cashmere Short Coat at 0:56, the Featherless Quilted Long Puffer at 2:57, the men’s overshirt at 4:43, the Merino Wool Shirt Jacket at 5:32, the two coats I’m eyeing at 7:26 and the Hooded Wrap Coat at 9:24.
Are Quince coats true to size?
It really depends on the style. At 5’2″, the puffer fit true to size. The short coat fits my body but runs long in the sleeves and wide in the shoulders, the Hooded Wrap Coat is roomy, and the Merino Shirt Jacket runs big. I’d love to see Quince add petite sizing or an XXS, though if you’re not super petite you might not run into these issues at all.
